San Marcos

We have now been in San Marcos for three days. It is a little town across the lake from San Pedro and it is much cleaner and relaxed here. The hotel we are staying at is called La Paz and we are living in a dormitory like house with 2 Germans and two Montrealeans, luckily for us they all speak English. San Marcos is known for being a center of holistic healing so there are massages and yoga and meditation going on all the time everywhere. We have been doing yoga every morning at our hotel and then going in the traditional Mayan sauna at 6 every night, it is very relaxing. It is definitely a nice change of pace from San Pedro which is mostly a party town. There are also very clean beaches to swim at here. We have basically been spending our days reading, swimming, yogaing, saunaing, eating, and chilling. We are thinking we will stay for a week and then move on to someplace new, maybe scuba diving! The massages here are around 20 dollars US for an hour so we are definitely going to get one of those sometime this week as well. The whole area is full of amazing gardens and huge avocado trees which sustain a very friendly and entertaining population of dogs. We are having a really good time here and are plotting our next move, we miss all of you guys, see you soon!

Here is a link to a map of where we have been

Hi Claire and Joel,

This is great -- I really love the map feature. I went to my huge Natl. Geog. Atlas -- not a single place you mentioned was there, except Panajachel and Livingstone. What a great trip! And veryh unusual and off the beaten track.

Love Dad
